2012 Project Graduation Volunteer Opportunities
Graduation is Tuesday, May 22, 2012
Thank you very much for your interest in helping with Project Graduation! It takes over 100 volunteers to put on this very worthwhile event for our graduates. Below are the volunteer positions available. All positions are open to senior and underclass parents unless otherwise indicated. Questions? Contact Janean Fortune jkfortune@cox.net.
Volunteer Positions:
1. CHECK-IN at Wells Fargo Arena at ASU (UNDERCLASS parents only).
Time: Approximately 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM at Wells Fargo Arena
Job Description: You will check in graduates for Project Graduation.
2. BUS CHAPERONES/ EVENT VOLUNTEER
Time: Approximately 9:15 PM, Tuesday, May 22th to 5:00 AM
Job Description: Chaperones will ride the bus with the graduates from Wells Fargo Arena to Octane Raceway (a 5 minute ride at approximately 9:30 PM), work at Project Grad all night, and then ride the bus back to Chaparral at 4:30 AM on Wednesday morning. Chaperones should also choose an area they would like to work in the night of the event.
3. CARNIVAL VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Work various games in the carnival area. Breaks will be
built into your schedule. This area is very busy all night and is a great way to interact with all the happy graduates!
4. CASINO VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Attend a dealer information meeting before graduation, and deal Blackjack at the tables all night. The rules are very simple and ANYONE can be a dealer (even if you don’t have much casino experience!). This is very busy and exciting all night long. We also have spots for cashiers and banking.
5. TATTOOS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Attend a training meeting before graduation, and ink Henna tattoos on the graduates all night long. There are patterns to follow so it’s not hard to do and a great way to talk to the graduates and wish them well.
6. RAFFLE VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Work with the raffle chair people to gather, catalogue and display the items for the three raffles held during the evening of Project Grad. This area is extremely busy all night long.
7. ROTATION VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Volunteers will rotate among various areas within the facility to supervise activities such as rock wall climbing, racing, arcade, pit crew challenges, boxer bingo, and relieving volunteers in the carnival so they may take a food and beverage break. All rotation people will be given a schedule and will rotate to designated areas during the evening.
8. BAGGAGE & FIRST AID VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 9:30 PM and work until 4:30 AM at Octane Raceway.
Job Description: Volunteers will work in the baggage room that holds the
Graduates’ belongings. These volunteers will also be in charge of the sign out sheets. We are also looking for someone in the medical field that could act as “Good Samaritan” and could administer light first aid if it is needed.
9. MORNING SET UP VOLUNTEERS
Time: Approximately 10:00 AM to noon on the day of graduation
Job Description: Volunteers will meet the committee at Chaparral, load materials from the CHAPTS room to our cars, drive down to Octane Raceway and help set up one wing of the facility.
10. EVENING SET UP VOLUNTEERS (UNDERCLASS parents only)
Time: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Octane Raceway
Job Description: Volunteers will assist the committee in final set up for Project Grad.
11. MORNING AFTER ASSISTANCE
Time: Approximately 5:45 AM on Wednesday, May 23th.
Job Description: Volunteers will meet the exhausted committee at Chaparral to help unload our cars and put everything back into the CHAPTS room. We are forever indebted to these volunteers!
12. FOOD COMMITTEE
Time: Weeks before and during the evening of Project Graduation
Job Description: Volunteers will work with the Food Committee Chair to reach out to vendors for food for the all night event. Committee members will also help set up and serve during the evening.
